How Does Invisalign® Work?

Your clear aligners are custom-made for your unique orthodontic requirements and are produced in a sequence that will gently move your teeth into their proper position. The aligners work by applying the ideal amount of pressure, at exactly the right time to shift your teeth. As you move through the sequence of aligners, you will see your teeth gradually straighten and your smile come into alignment. Each set of aligners is used for approximately two weeks before moving to the next one in the Invisalign series.

Because the aligners are virtually invisible, Invisalign® allows you to discreetly create your ideal smile without slowing you down. Each aligner should be worn for 22 hours each day to achieve optimal results. They can, however, be removed easily, allowing you to eat and drink your favorite foods or play sports.

Am I A Candidate for Clear Aligners?

TIPS FOR CARING FOR YOUR INVISALIGN® CLEAR ALIGNERS

Patients usually find the most appealing feature of Invisalign® treatment is being able to straighten your smile discreetly. Maddux Orthodontics recommends the following tips to keep your aligners in top shape so they can stay translucent.

Ideally, you should brush your teeth after each meal to remove any remaining food particles and rinse the aligners before placing them back in your mouth. If you do not have a toothbrush with you, we recommend rinsing your mouth with water or mouthwash to help dislodge any residual food particles.

Maddux Orthodontics will provide an aligner case for you to safely carry your Invisalign with you. Placing your Invisalign in the case when you are eating will help prevent loss or damage to the aligners.

Using a small amount of toothpaste, gently brush the aligners on the inner and outer surface so as to not damage the finish on the Invisalign aligner. 

Rinse aligners with cool water as hot or boiling water will warp the aligner and it will no longer fit into its proper position on your teeth.

CLEANING DONT’S

Maddux Orthodontics would like to remind patients of some important ‘cleaning don’ts’ during treatment.

  • Avoid placing aligners in hot or boiling water.
  • Avoid using abrasive cleaners that might scratch or blemish the surface of the aligner.
  • Avoid soaking aligners in mouthwash, as it might discolor the aligners, making them more visible.
  • Do not soak your aligners in denture cleaning solution, as it is abrasive to the plastic.

Invisible

Though most people start off their Invisalign® treatment self-conscious about whether people can see their aligners (as if they were actually wearing metal braces), the truth is that no one will be able to tell you are wearing them unless you tell them you are. Move Aligners – Comfortable & Custom Aligners

In special cases, Dr. Maddux has the ability to create custom Move Aligners in his in-house lab. He generally uses these aligners for small cases requiring less movement and less time. Similar to other clear aligners, Move Aligners are virtually invisible dental aligners that gradually straighten your teeth. These aligners are more comfortable and convenient than traditional braces and do not need adjusting.

This state-of-the-art technology allows our well-trained technicians to take accurate 3-D digital images of your mouth. How Does iTero Work?

iTero Digital Scanner utilizes an intraoral scanning wand that gently and comfortably moves over each tooth and soft structures.
